Scott got a call from his pal Al Jardine asking if he would be interested in collaborating on a track recorded by The Beach Boys back before Carl Wilson fell ill. It did not take Scott long to come up with his answer and Al sent the Pro Tools files of his song ‘Don’t Fight the Sea’ to TikiTown. Upon playing back the tracks, Scott was blown away by being able to hear those classic, gorgeous harmonies by Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson and of course Al himself, the glue to the Beach Boys’ blend. Scott tore into it and came up with no less than 10 vocal tracks himself and tossed some spaghetti western 12 string guitars in for good measure and … whalla … an extremely rare, modern/old recording that is now finally ready for public consumption. For Scott to be able to work with Carl, one of his closest friends during his entire lifetime (now deceased) was nothing short of an out of body experience.
Mr. Jardine loved Scott’s work and let him know his production was ‘incredible.’ Not bad coming from a guy who was produced by the one and only Brian Wilson for decades and changed the world of music as we know it. Thanks Al, you are the best and you still sound as good as the day you sang “Help Me Rhonda”!
As of this writing, Scott is scheduled to give the Keynote speech at the West Coast Songwriters’ Convention in the middle of the month. Then the entire remainder of Sept. at TikiTown is dedicated to a promising new artist from Toronto, Canada named Greg Janssen. Greg’s ethereal style of songwriting and unique lyrical approach will make for one of the most ambitious projects in a long while. The production involves a huge array of instrumentation and complex arrangements. The outcome will feature some full servings of violin, viola and cello, courtesy of TikiTown’s Tom Luekens.
